2021 is almost over, so it's time to look ahead to what the coming year will bring. New trends and developments mean new possibilities and opportunities. Which trends and developments are worth mentioning when looking at (digital) archiving for the coming year?

Cyber Security

In 2021, there was a significant increase in the number of cyber-attacks on companies. In the Netherlands, for instance, there was an increase of up to 86% compared to the previous year. Due to the coronavirus crisis and the resulting growing dependence on mobile devices, more people are working from different locations, making data more vulnerable. Cybercriminals are adapting rapidly, and cyber-attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated. It is expected that this trend will intensify even further in 2022. To combat this, governments intend to introduce more regulations. Companies will face penalties if they negotiate with cybercriminals or hackers. The goal is to eliminate the primary motive for cybercriminals: money. The security of (digital) data is therefore more important than ever. Work with companies that have their information security in order and possess the appropriate certifications.

Hybrid Working

At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, many people worked from home for the first time, resulting in low office occupancy. The pandemic forced companies to adapt quickly, which made the transition to working from home challenging for many at the start. As the pandemic continued, people gradually returned to the office. Now, long after the start of the pandemic, we have discovered that working from home also has many advantages. This is how the hybrid working model came into being, and it will not disappear from the business world. By working partly at home and partly in the office, you get the best of both worlds. It is expected that more people will be working in a hybrid manner in 2022. As companies also save money with this model, it will continue to gain traction. As hybrid working shifts from temporary to permanent, businesses will invest more in making it a viable option. All information must be accessible in the right place, with the appropriate authorisations.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based innovations are currently helping many people. This trend began years ago, but there is still considerable potential in this area of society, and developments in this field are set to accelerate again in 2022. In short, Artificial Intelligence focuses on developing (human-like) intelligence in non-living creations. The aim is for these creations to be able to think, reason, act and even learn. AI has the potential to (partially) solve many problems in the future. Currently, AI is being used to develop medicines, analyse data, and optimise the use of renewable energy, among other things. In 2022, AI will become increasingly relevant and assist society with problems that would otherwise remain unsolved. There will also be a shift in the size of companies utilising AI. While AI has so far been employed primarily in large organisations, it will begin to play a more prominent role in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Archive-IT closely monitors trends and developments to apply them in our solutions and business processes wherever possible. We believe innovation is essential to help organisations with their (digital) archiving challenges.
