As you may know, the new privacy law will take effect on May 25, 2018. This law applies not only to the Netherlands but to all of Europe and is based on the 1995 privacy law. But what does this privacy law actually entail? Archive-IT will show you what the privacy law is and how it relates to archiving and digitization.
General Data Protection Regulation
The GDPR – also known as the AVG in the Netherlands – is the new privacy law. This law is a further development of the 1995 privacy law. It expands and strengthens the privacy rights of individuals and businesses. For various companies, this law has a major impact. Companies are allowed to collect personal data based on – consent of the user, vital interests, legal obligation, contract, public interest, and legitimate interest.
Measures at Archive-IT
Because Archive-IT is a processor of sensitive personal information and works daily with privacy-sensitive data from our clients, we cannot afford any data leaks or careless handling of this information. The measures taken to protect data are therefore of the highest possible standard. Archive-IT has long been committed to protecting personal data and has invested in this from an early stage. Still, some additional measures were taken in light of the introduction of this new law. The ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certifications have been of great importance within our organization for years. Some extra measures that have been implemented include: data processing agreements have been established, a data protection officer has been appointed, a retention policy has been developed, and our privacy policy has been further tightened to fully comply with the GDPR.
Archive-IT has chosen to take no risks and to take the measures related to the General Data Protection Regulation very seriously. Organizations express their trust in Archive-IT by placing their sensitive personal information in our hands.
We do everything in our power to live up to that trust.
