A few weeks ago, Archive-IT contacted Voedselbank Midden-Limburg, based in Roermond. Due to the corona crisis, we heard from various sources that they could use all the support they could get. Two members of the Social Fund were invited to visit the Food Bank and experience the situation there firsthand.
Midden-Limburg
In Roermond, we were welcomed by Ger Boereboom, 71 years old, and chairman of the Food Bank. He has been leading this initiative for several years with passion and enthusiasm. He shared how they ended up in the school building and how, every week, a large group of volunteers prepares food packages for five municipalities in the region: Roermond, Echt-Susteren, Roerdalen, Maasgouw, and Leudal. They collect surplus food and distribute it to the people who need it most. Additionally, they work to increase the self-sufficiency of families, helping them become independent as quickly as possible.
Stockpiling
When the corona pandemic began and people started stockpiling, the supermarkets had less to offer the Food Bank as they needed the stock for themselves. This led to a potential shortage of food for families. Various actions and donations were organized to ensure the Food Bank had enough supplies. For instance, a WhatsApp quiz was held, chefs from closed restaurants prepared meals, and numerous donations were made—both financially and in the form of food.
A Beautiful Contribution
A look behind the scenes at the Food Bank left a strong yet beautiful impression. It was truly impressive to see how such a large group of volunteers works tirelessly every week to provide essential items for other families. The Social Fund made a generous contribution of €2,500. Ger commented: "This is a wonderful contribution from Archive-IT. The amount will definitely be put to good use within Voedselbank Midden-Limburg to provide families with food packages. Thank you!" During the handover of the cheque, Ger kept thanking us. We are confident this amount will be well spent; that's what it's all about!
